I’ve had a few more calls this winter, some EMS and some fire-related. There’s only one way to build experience, and that’s to get out there and do things. I’m not really able to do very much, but I feel like if I learn at least 1 new thing on each call it was worth it.
My most recent call was for an older man who appeared to have had a seizure or possibly a TIA (more on that in a minute). My role here was mostly as a recorder of vitals & meds, and to pull and return supplies from the med bag.
Two major new things from this call:
* used the glucose meter, including the lancet, for the first time
* learned that TIA means “transient ischemic attack,” or minor stroke
